Background
As a Redmond resident, business owner, and community leader for over 30 years, my work and my passion has always been about connecting the actions of today with the future of tomorrow. During my career in financial and strategic planning I learned to see around the corners and develop strategies and take the actions to make things better.
While at King County and the City of Seattle, I worked across all functions of government. I guided elected officials on policy, budget and operational improvements. I advised department heads and their staff to help make government perform better. I know how local government functions; what is working well and what needs to change. That is experience that no other candidate can bring. This makes me uniquely qualified to drive Redmond City Council forward.
Efficient, Effective and Transparent Government
I led the creation of Redmond’s first Community Strategic Plan in 2019, giving residents a stronger voice in decisions and improving how the city delivers services. As Chair of the Finance, Administration, and Communication Committee, I’ve used my 35+ years of experience in budgeting and performance management to ensure taxpayer dollars are used effectively.
Looking Ahead
I will continue to modernize procurement practices, push for public input on major projects, and stand for open, transparent decision-making like I did when I challenged housing projects that required more community involvement and the abrupt closure of the Old Redmond Firehouse (Teen Center). Redmond is home to some of the most amazing people in the world. What we do here impacts the entire planet. Our city government should be no less innovative, creative and thoughtful. We need leaders that will make Redmond the special city that every other community looks at as a place that got it right. Our developers are important community partners, but we need to ensure they build what we as a city want, not what is simply easy to do.I
Protecting Our Environment
I led Redmond’s adoption of the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan (ESAP), and the declaration recognizing the urgent need to act, putting the city on a path toward long-term environmental responsibility.
Looking Ahead
I’ll focus on disaster preparedness, reducing emissions, improving waste reduction practices, and building a greener, more sustainable future.
Housing People Can Afford
I have called Redmond home for for 46 years. I have seen our city grow and the big changes that came with that growth, especially skyrocketing housing costs. I am committed to keeping Redmond affordable for young people starting out, and for seniors who want to age in place. I will continue to work to design and build neighborhoods for active families that deserve to have convenient access to work, services, and entertainment. This is why I championed Redmond’s first Housing Action Plan, to better understand our current housing supply and evaluate our needs, and shape policy accordingly.
