Re-Elect Steve Fields for City Council

All People. All Voices. Our Future.

Background

As a Redmond resident, business owner, and community leader for over 30 years, my work and passion has always been about connecting the actions of today with the future of tomorrow. During my career in financial and strategic planning, I learned to see around the corners and develop strategies and take the actions to make things better.

While at King County and the City of Seattle, I worked across all functions of government. I guided elected officials on policy, budgeting, and operational improvements. I advised department heads and their staff on making the best and most efficient choices. I know how local government functions; what is working well and what needs to change. That is experience no other candidate can bring. This makes me uniquely qualified to drive Redmond City Council forward.

Efficient, Effective and Transparent Government

I led the creation of Redmond’s first Community Strategic Plan in 2019, giving residents a stronger voice in decision making and how the city delivers services. As Chair of the Finance, Administration, and Communication Committee, I’ve used my 35+ years of experience in budgeting and performance management to ensure taxpayer dollars are used effectively.

Looking Ahead

I will continue to modernize procurement practices, push for public input on major projects, and stand for open, transparent decision-making like when I challenged controversial housing projects that required more community involvement on finalization. Or the abrupt closure of the Old Redmond Firehouse (Teen Center) that left many Redmond youth without a safe-space to express themselves. Redmond is home to some of the most amazing people in the world. Our city government should be no less innovative, creative and thoughtful. We need leaders that will protect what makes Redmond so special.

Protecting Our Environment

I led Redmond’s adoption of the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan (ESAP), and the declaration recognizing the urgent need to act on climate change to put the city on a path toward long-term environmental responsibility.

Looking Ahead

I’ll focus on disaster preparedness, reducing emissions, improving waste reduction practices, and building a greener, more sustainable future. Ensuring clean water, continued enjoyment of our natural beauty, protecting the trees and vegetation that keep our air clean, our homes cooler, and our wildlife and fish abundant. Including the protection of lives and property of residents during natural disasters such as wildfires and storm disasters.

I will make it a priority to ensure the city works with residents to minimize the waste we generate in our daily lives. Environmentally-friendly and inexpensive building techniques are advancing at a rapid pace. The City of Redmond must collaborate with the suppliers and work with urgency to help residents to save money on energy, rent costs, and reduce our carbon emissions.

Housing People Can Afford

I have called Redmond home for for 46 years. I have seen our city grow and the big changes that came with that growth, especially skyrocketing housing costs. I am committed to keeping Redmond affordable for young people starting out, and for seniors who want to age in place. I will continue to work with developers to design and build neighborhoods for active families that deserve to have convenient access to work, services, and entertainment.

This is why I championed Redmond’s first Housing Action Plan, to better understand our current housing supply and evaluate our needs, and shape policy accordingly.
