Redmond City Council
People First. Our City. Our Voice. Our Future.
We have made much progress in Redmond, but there is much more work to be done.”
Steve Fields - Redmond City Councilmember. Community Leader. Problem Solver.
Redmond residents deserve the experience and compassion I bring to City Government. On Council I have always stood up for the community, even in those times I stood alone or in the minority. Your vote for me will continue the bold ideas and thoughtful actions that make us better.
What’s important to me:
Efficient, Effective and Transparent Government
Protecting Our Environment
Housing People Can Afford
Accessible and Safer Transportation Choices
Parks and Recreation for All
Support for Small and Micro-Businesses
Public Safety and Crime Prevention
Key Priorities
Efficient, Effective and Transparent Government
I led the creation of Redmond’s first Community Strategic Plan in 2019, giving residents a stronger voice in decisions and improving how the city delivers services. As Chair of the Finance, Administration, and Communication Committee, I’ve used my 35+ years of experience in budgeting and performance management to ensure taxpayer dollars are used effectively.
Looking Ahead
I will continue to modernize procurement practices, push for public input on major projects, and stand for open, transparent decision-making like I did when I challenged housing projects that required more community involvement and the abrupt closure of the Old Redmond Firehouse (Teen Center).
Protecting Our Environment
I led Redmond’s adoption of the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan (ESAP), and the declaration recognizing the urgent need to act, putting the city on a path toward long-term environmental responsibility.
Looking Ahead
I’ll focus on disaster preparedness, reducing emissions, improving waste reduction practices, and building a greener, more sustainable future
Housing People Can Afford
I have called Redmond home for for 46 years. I have seen our city grow and the big changes that came with that growth, especially skyrocketing housing costs. I am committed to keeping Redmond affordable for young people starting out, and for seniors who want to age in place. I will continue to work to design and build neighborhoods for active families that deserve to have convenient access to work, services, and entertainment. This is why I championed Redmond’s first Housing Action Plan, to better understand our current housing supply and evaluate our needs, and shape policy accordingly.
Looking Ahead
There are no quick fixes. But we can:
Embrace innovative, cost-cutting construction methods
Expand mixed-income housing options
Protect existing affordable homes
Support first-time buyers and renters
Keep property taxes manageable
Ensure transparency in housing partnerships
Better Transportation
As a motorcycle rider, I’ve experienced Redmond’s dangerous road conditions firsthand. I’ve long advocated for automobile, bike, pedestrian, wheelchair, and scooter safety, and I've helped staff build real solutions.
Looking Ahead
With the Transportation Benefit District now in place, I will ensure that road repairs, bike lanes, sidewalk upgrades, adaptive traffic signals, and more neighborhood mobility solutions stay on track and meet community needs.
Parks and Recreation for All
Parks and Recreation for All
Over 90% of residents are satisfied with Redmond Parks, and for good reason. I helped expand parks to more neighborhoods, add dog parks and community gardens, and improve accessibility and maintenance.
Looking Ahead
Expand parks in high-growth areas so everyone can walk to green space
Complete long-delayed connections in the Eastern Corridor with trails and bridges
Align programming with community needs
Build partnerships to fund development and ensure access for all
Support for Small and Micro-Businesses
As a former small business owner, I know firsthand how vital these businesses are to our community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I stood with our local entrepreneurs, many of whom were overlooked and underserved.
Looking Ahead
Supporting small business growth and resilience remains a top priority.
Public Safety and Crime Prevention
Most of Redmond’s recent crime increases involve property crime and fraud. These are preventable with awareness and resources.
Looking Ahead
I will continue to advocate for improved investigative capacity, crime prevention programs, and strong community engagement to ensure every resident feels safe.
About Steve
My passion for travel allows me to bring innovative, real-world ideas home; like outdoor ping pong tables and pet fountains inspired by Barcelona, or bike-friendly infrastructure modeled after cities like Davis, CA and Boulder, CO.
I’ve served on the City Council since 2017 and was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2021 because I always put Redmond residents first. With a background in strategic planning, finance, and operational performance, and decades of hands-on community service. I’m committed to results, not rhetoric.
My guiding principle is simple: listen to people, encourage dialogue, and champion the best ideas, regardless of where they come from. Elected leaders don’t need to be the smartest person in the room, but they must be willing to collaborate, listen, and lead with integrity.
Fundraising with Yuliia
I moved to Redmond in 1979 after graduating from college to begin my career in aerospace. In 1990, my wife and I bought our home on Education Hill, where we still live today. Our three children attended Redmond public schools, walking to class just like so many others in our community. Now, our granddaughters spend their summers here, loving the same city we’ve called home for decades.
Community involvement has always been central to my life. As local coffee shop owners, my wife and I sponsored fundraisers and hosted cultural and community events. At King County, I was honored with the Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award for supporting victims of domestic violence. I also stay active by umpiring over 120 youth sports games a year, and you’ll often find me playing tennis, scuba diving, biking to local events, or enjoying Redmond’s many great restaurants with friends and family.
